Cool Earth - Y7 Saving the Rainforest!

Today the Y7s have been learning about the threats to the rain-forest  and they were shocked at the extent of the deforestation taking part across the globe. For the final 15mins of the lesson they were driven to come up with ways of saving the rain-forest and generated a list of fascinating ideas to raise awareness around school.

As a result we have now signed up to become a "cool school," with the charity Coolearth, and our intentions are for the geography department to raise money in order to save an acre of precious forest. Visit coolearth.org to find out more about the projects that we can do within school. Over the next half-term we will be working on several projects including:

  • Writing letters to local business in support of Coolearth and secure funding.
  • Exploring how much waste paper the school uses on a single day and creating a geo-political message around school.
  • Film a video emphasising the importance of the rain forest to us.
  • Launch an assembly to teach others and spread the word.
We have lots to work on, and if you have anymore ideas, let us know!

3/2/'13

Over the last week the Y7 geographers have been busy recording videos as part of Cool Earth's "one minute to save the world," campaign. Below are the results from some very creative lessons... the pupils had a camera, and one minute to create a video to raise awareness about deforestation. Below is a final edit combining each groups clips, enjoy.
